Vaccines and Wellness Exams

Our goal with yearly wellness exams is to help prevent diseases and health issues before your cat becomes seriously ill.

These wellness exams allow us to look for early signs and symptoms of disease.

At wellness visits we’ll discuss how to keep your cat happy and healthy though individualized vaccinations, preventative medical and dental care, microchipping and parasite control.

We will also discuss any nutritional or weight concerns.

Vaccinations: We realize that cats can have very different lifestyles. Some go outside, some stay inside, and some travel the country. We work with you to determine which vaccines are indicated to best protect your cat based on the possibility of exposure to disease.

Preventative medical and dental care: Wellness exams include a full physical exam from head to tail. We will check the weight, eyes/ears, oral exam and teeth check, listen to the heart and lungs, palpate the abdomen and lymph nodes, and check for pain or abnormalities.

Microchipping: Microchips are an excellent way for your cat to have permanent identification. Cats can easily get out of collars and lose their tags. A microchip is placed under the skin between the shoulder blades and when scanned can give a veterinarian, shelter, or animal control officer a number that is called into the microchip company who then notifies the owner that their cat has been found.

To check if your cat’s microchip is registered visit: http://www.petmicrochiplookup.org/

Parasite control: Cats can have many types of parasites ranging from fleas and mites to intestinal parasites and heartworm. Parasite prevention can also vary based on your cats lifestyle. We recommend at least yearly fecal testing for intestinal parasites for all cats, as some intestinal parasites can be passed on to family members.
